How can one make money starting a blog?
There are some basic confusion in this quesiton. Platforms like WordPress or Blogger is free. making system that AdSense ads.
"Biased" is correct. Median blog have probably $ 0. There are many people who six figures, but probably less than 1% of the blogosphere. Want to make six figures, you must carefully choose your topic for the economic opportunities rather than personal interest and work was with the same unit of 90 hours / week in a unit of six-figure salary.
If you want to write about something you care (and not a self-indulgent diary) typically subject, which I blogged so, you're probably ready for a stream of income $ 10,000 / year / level of effort of 10 hours per week. So almost as a poorly paid part-time work.
In other words, this is not a way to quickly rich. The average blog takes about 2-3 years to mature. The faster they can mature in less than a year. Slower may take 4-5 years or longer, even with the best performance. Everything depends on the topic. You can speed up the growth curve artificially, but you pay the cost later (artificial reduction of the natural life of your blog). I prefer what I call slow market is growing a blog in its organic, natural and sustainable form of growth. By this criterion, my blog is a very slow maturation. He has just begun to mature, four years after it began. Another way to interpret this is: if a blog is your escape from routine, one of the few year begins before you think you need to escape pod.
Also remember that just like any other products, has a blog a natural life, depending on the topic. I grew up with my hope that as long as I live. Thus, the growth of your blog at a rate that is proportional to life expectancy. If you think that your niche will disappear within two years, it's silly to a growth plan four years. Trying OF lifetime income, uninsulated months or optimize to maturity.
There are two general types of direct and indirect income. Direct revenues derived directly from the blog content and requires no additional marketing efforts. Indirect use the blog as a marketing channel to other income, and require conversion costs. In general, much less direct than indirectly. I would say about 20% or less. There are categories for you to invest.
directly
Direct is a formula fairly well understood by now. You still have to think, adjust and optimize, but usually can be prevented and workmanship that stupid mistake. The hard part is not part of the "make money" here. The write (or draw, or podcasting) quality stuff week after week. In live games, 90% chance of success, like Woody Allen said, just show up.
If you want to share the money, if you are smart, this reaction plus a couple of months to read a website that problogger.net enough. If you would more structured supervision of a Dummies book. If you want to be, there are plenty of potted plants spoon, to make money blogging online courses out there.
The above have, in reverse order lucrativeness for me personally:
CPC: How the baseline to serve AdSense. It took me two years to get my first $ 100 salary from Google AdSense. After 6 months, until my second $ 100. As I turned the thing off. Not worth it unless you have something like a blog on a lucrative product're writing, such as digital cameras or pharmaceutical industry. You should experiment to find out if it's worth your blog. AdSense is the most important channel CPC. There are other. Please note that placing a prominent notice annoys readers, so there is a clear commitment.
CPM CPM ads are much less popular in the ground, and in fact do not know anyone who can write automated self. I found a pair for about $ 50 per month each in a pair of popular posts. Advertisers are looking for me. That's usually how it works. When you reach a certain size, people will start coming to you with offers. Most are worthless. Some are good. This is really worth it just for a high traffic blog. O for the corners of the high traffic blogs medium traffic. Beyond a point, if you do it this way, you have the right ads advertisers direct questions. On the basis of available funds get enough money. I had no energy and has not pushed.
Tip: Consumption plugin "Buy me a beer" for WordPress (set to "coffee" instead of "bear"). There are many other programs on the basis of critical thresholds. This is my favorite because psychology ( "buy me a beer" instead of "donation") is doing well and is three times more effective, according to statistics from the plugin authors. This gives $ 30 or more in a good month, $ 100 to $ 300 a month that I was a viral success.
Member: This is the only channel I really stuck with me, and just Amazon.com. This channel has increased with my blog, and these days that get somewhere between $ 80 - $ 200 / month on average. This is a category (books) very well with my website. You have to experiment a lot to hit paydirt here. A friend pulling in more than $ 1000, also on Amazon. Note that in California today, this program has been delayed because of a dispute between Amazon and the state government. To explore a wider range of affiliate system, try shareasale.com. I had no success.
Sponsorship: You can easily buttons or widgets paypal donation Amazon issues directly to build sponsorship. This is only worthwhile if you get feedback from readers who leave a substantial reader loyalty and trust. They must believe that you write in favor of writing and not for other reasons. My sponsor page is here: http://www.ribbonfarm.com/sponsor/ ... for 2011, has received almost $ 2000 for the occasion. I will be back in 2012. Think of this as the clock NPR / PBS strategy. It works only if you manage your blog as NPR / PBS.
Other: There are other direct channels that have not used a conscious decision. The key is just freemium model with a "member of the community" and additional content. I'm fine with that content quality raw materials (news), or types of content transactions (eg education), but for most types of content I think is contrary to the spirit of the blogs and also has very little sense of marketing. Readers care an artificial barrier between people who pay / free (remember that the value of a reader has almost nothing to do with what they pay, and everything to do with the status of your comment, sincerity and enthusiasm for their support in word of mouth, etc.). I like a version of these events, but ... paid.
